Product briefings

System PGI optimises the performance of wood pellet stoves

A favorable context

Sales of wood pellet stoves have increased strongly over the last few years. There is a wide, structured range which provides reliable technology with looks and designs that are ever more enticing. Ease of use and programming of the output have produced a product that has a very high development potential.

Where improving consumer satisfaction is concerned, the quality of the heating device, the fuel and the chimney flue are linked. The factors cannot be dissociated.

In France, not everything is yet regulated in this respect, especially where the chimney flue or duct is concerned. It is necessary to optimise the union heating device/duct in the laboratory, to verify its CE conformity and ensure that it has a technical approval. Nothing within the framework of French legislation, aside from the technical approval, details the conditions of installation of a flue for wood pellet stoves (so-called non-traditional). Supply of air is necessary so that the device operates correctly. Correct air management contributes to an improved output and therefore better economy.

Poujoulat therefore created the System PGI range specially for wood pellet stoves. After final optimisation in the CERIC Laboratory and experimental centres, the System PGI received its technical approval.

At the same time POUJOULAT and HARMAN received a shared technical approval in 2005.

Poujoulat innovation

System PGI is a smoke evacuation system especially designed to optimised wood pellet stove performance. When it is equipped with the EPDA (an exclusive adapter), System PGI permits a reduction in the stove consumption from 10 to 15 %. Recent tests carried out by the CERIC Laboratory, in partnership with the manufacturer of PALAZZETTI stoves have confirmed these performances and the PALAZZETTI wood pellet stoves have received the CSTB Technical Approval when used in conjunction with System PGI duct.

Conclusions of the study undertaken by the LNE, the Laboratoire CERIC and the company TECHNOVA with the support of the ADEME intended to determine the influence of the smoke duct on a wood stove:

"The provision of a concentric duct offers a substantial gain for the wood pellet stove: the combustion air led through the annular part is warmed by contact with the wall of the duct transporting the smoke and thus contributes to an improvement in the combustion and a significant gain in energy yield of at least 10 percent on average. Moreover, this solution is very easy to implement, particularly in an existing building."

The intake of air and the evacuation of smoke takes place in the same chimney duct. This means that future thermal regulations are fulfilled and simplifies integration within the building structure.
Moreover, greenhouse gas emissions are significantly reduced which contributes to conservation of the environment.

System description

System PGI is a range of stainless steel double-wall ducts specially designed for wood pellet stoves and sealed gas inserts. The range is made up of several diameters  (Ø 80/130, 100/150, 130/200 et 150/200 mm) and offers a large choice of accessories for optimum use and appearance within the home.
The duct is resistant to open fires and has a gasketless seal.

The system System PGI has CE approval n°0071-CPD-0051 et 0052, and Technical approval n°14/05-961. It has been awarded the label Tested CERIC awarded by Centre des Etudes et Recherches des industries de la cheminée (Research and study centre of the chemical industries) and a 10-year Poujoulat guarantee.

System PGI is made in France using high quality material that is 100% recyclable.

Implementation

A safe distance of 10 cm must be maintained between the outer wall of the system and any inflammable material, whatever the configuration (separate or concentric).

The System PGI is easily installed and does not need to project 40 cm from the masonry. The wood pellet stove can be freely positioned, including on a veranda.

Connection: air inlet principle

Installation of your duct:
horizontal or vertical

Renovation: lining of your existing flue

When it is equipped with the EPDA (an exclusive adapter), System PGI permits a reduction in the stove consumption from 10 to 15 %.
